Belfast
Day 13 - July 7, 2017
Belfast is the largest city in Northern Ireland and the second largest on the island. It has a population of approximately 300,000 people. Belfast boomed in the 1800's with the success of the linen, rope-making, and especially from the shipbuilding industry. Belfast built many ships that didn't sink, but is most famous for the one that did sink, the Titanic after hitting an iceberg. In 2012, the Titanic Belfast Museum opened illustrating the history of the Titanic.

As we drove into Belfast, our bus driver gave us a driving tour of Falls Road to see the murals related to the Troubles in Northern Ireland. Take a look at some of these to the left.
|
Then we headed to the Titanic Belfast Museum where we learned all about the construction of the Titanic which was built in Belfast right on the site of this museum. Here are some pictures on the right.

In the afternoon, we joined our local guide, Susie Millar, who gave us a tour of Belfast. Some pictures are to the left.

This evening was our last dinner with the group. We had a great time sharing our memories of the tour over great food and abundant wine. Some pictures of out last group dinner are to the right.

After our group dinner, Cathie had one more surprise for us. We went to a pub to enjoy some final Irish music and dancing. It was one last chance to mingle with the group. It seemed like no one wanted to part ways! Here are few pictures on the left.

Day 14 - July 8, 2017
Our tour is over after breakfast and we travel back to Minnesota. This was a great tour. One of our best. We will always remember Cathie Ryan, our guide, for her knowledge of Ireland. Her presentation of history and culture through her songs will especially be remembered. Thank you Cathie!
We want to thank our tour family for sharing a part of their life with us. We really enjoyed everyone. Here is our group picture with names attached (thanks to Steve R).
We are planning our next Rick Steve's tour and looking forward to it. This will be our 21st tour with Rick. Based on our past experience, I'm sure we will not be disappointed.
Slán leat! Choinneáil ar thaisteal!
As Rick says - Keep on Traveling!
